This dwelling is suited within rural setting outside of Craughwell village, the site is lined with mature trees and south facing views.
The passive solar gains, views, prevailing winds and integration into such a large site informed our design. With the carport / entrance to the east side of the site provides sheltered entry and reaches out to the mature trees and steps down the massing of the cubic form.
A simple central circulation axis north and south renders distant views to south and connects to the back garden and mature trees which are 100m behind the house.
Yet to be completed by the clients, who are avid BBQ fans, is an external deck with a tall two storey freestanding outdoor BBQ fire and “Chimney”. This will act as both sundial and space enclosing element. A large mound to the front of the house further integrates the house into the landscape.
